Best display for outdoor use comparison:

Best display for outdoor use comparison: Samsung Galaxy S5 vs HTC One M8 vs Apple iPhone 5s vs Note 3 vs the rest Summer is right around the corner and what this means is more time spent outdoors, be it for vacations at the beach, by the swimming pool, or just for a walk. One device that will always make you company whenever you go is your smartphone, but in those (hopefully!) sunny days ahead of us, the brightness of the sun feels like a blessing for us, but it's like a curse for smartphone displays. Problem is, that the light from the sun is many times brighter than even the brightest-lit room, and it is very hard for our displays to adapt to these very bright conditions. Try picking up your phone out in the sun, and you'll quickly find yourself looking for a shade or trying to shield it with your

Top five recommended Android apps

Top five recommended Android apps The number of Android applications in the  Google Play  market is continually rising at an estimated pace of 20,000 apps a month with a current total app count sitting at approximately 696,775. When you get a new phone, like the HTC One, you get the chance to reset the apps installed on your phone; in other words, you get a fresh start and you get to weed out the apps that were mostly dormant on your old phone. You typically start with your favorite or  best Android apps  and then move on to the less important apps like games and social networking apps. I would like to quickly run you through my list of top 5 Android apps, these are my daily driver apps that I use most often throughout the day. Please realize that if some or none of these apps are importa

BlinkFeed and HTC Gallery updates hit Google Play

BlinkFeed and HTC Gallery updates hit Google Play HTC is already taking advantage of the fact that BlinkFeed and its Galley apps are on Google Play by releasing updates to both of them. The BlinkFeed app includes bug fixes, scrolling optimizations and changes to social content while the HTC Gallery app now gives users the ability to use the apply Foergrounder effects anywhere within a picture captured by the Duo Camera. These changes are extremely minor, but HTC is showing HTC One (M8) users that they will be getting improvements to their phone without needing to wait for the drawn-out system update process which can take 3-4 months. We’re looking forward to seeing what other new features of tweaks HTC will push out next to make the HTC One (M8) even better! BlinkFeed update Optim

Dual-booting phones may be the change HTC needs

Dual-booting phones may be the change HTC needs HTC is in a tough spot. The launch of the HTC One in early 2013 was a bold move for the company. HTC created a single flagship device in an effort to streamline its product line and cut down on expenses. The phone itself is a masterpiece of design and engineering, picking up multiple awards for “phone of the year” and putting the Galaxy S4 to shame. To date, the HTC One has been the most successful handset HTC has ever built, but the phone has not been able to keep the company’s financial trajector y pointing in the right direction. According to Bloomberg, Microsoft has asked HTC to install its Windows Phone operating system on HTC’s Android powered devices. The concept of a dual-booting smartphone isn’t exactly new, but the idea that Mi

HTC Nexus 8

HTC Nexus 8 gains Wi-Fi certification, launch to come before October 9 The HTC Flounder (aka the Nexus 8) received a, b, g, n and ac Wi-Fi certification on August 15th. The official document doesn’t go into detail regarding the tablet’s specifications, but it does reveal the tablet is running on Android L as expected. To add a little more to the story, @upleaks revealed that HTC Nexus 8 tablet will come in three variations (Wi-Fi only, US LTE, Global LTE) and that its release date will come before October 9th. Since the Nexus 8 tablet has been rumored for nearly 6 months now, we would have hoped that it launch would have happened by now. We’re not sure if the hardware simply isn’t ready yet of if Google is taking longer than expected to wrap up the final code for Android L. Either way,

HTC Desire 510 heading to Sprint

HTC Desire 510 heading to Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Cricket Wireless in the US Yesterday’s unveiling of the HTC Desire 510 was followed up with news today that the affordable LTE smartphone will soon be making its way to four service providers in the US. Those who use Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Cricket Wireless will soon be able to get their hands on the HTC Desire 510. Availability and pricing details have not yet been shared, but we have a feeling the Desire 510 will be priced below the $200 mark without a contract. One thing that caught us off guard when looking through the new HTC Desire 510 webpage was an image of the phone with HTC’s Retro DotView case. Until now, the DotView case has only been available for phone running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC since it

Pink and blue may soon join the HTC One (M8) color party

Pink and blue may soon join the HTC One (M8) color party We’ve seen what the Stealth Red HTC One (M8) will look like , but now we’re hearing that there may be two other color variants of HTC’s flagship on the horizon – blue and pink. The 2013 HTC one actually had two blue variants (a light version for Europe and a “Best Buy” blue for the US) so it’s not really surprising to see the color coming back. However, we are a bit surprised to hear that there’ll be a pink HTC One (M8). HTC has produced a limited edition Hello Kitty HTC Butterfly S for Taiwan and Verizon did have the purple HTC Bliss with its charm notification a few years back, but neither device sold in large quantities. Would you or someone in your family be willing to sport an HTC One (M8) with pink anodized aluminum body?

Do you carry more than just an iPhone or iPad?

By Chris Parsons , Tuesday, Mar 4, 2014 a 12:03 am EST 79 For some people just one mobile device, be it an iPhone or iPad , just isn't enough. That's why Apple makes both, and why dozens of other companies make hundreds of other options. The possibilities really are endless. On a daily basis, I tend to carry a BlackBerry Z30 but my 'other device' depends on the day really. Some days my other device is my iPad mini . Some days it's my iPhone 5s and others, it's my HTC One . It's a blessing of the business to have several different devices to choose from at any given moment but it does make me wonder — how many others carry multiple devices and why? My iPhone and either my iPad Mini or my Kindle Paperwhite. JustMe'D, iMore Forums Member This question has come up recently on the iMore Forums and the answers have been interesting to say the least. How to Bypass iCloud Lock

iCloud lock or Find My iPhone Activation Lock prevents someone from stealing an iPhone, erasing it and using it as their own. It can also lock out users who forget their information or who buy a used phone from an owner that did not remove their information from it. There are two ways to bypass iCloud lock and activation lock to make the iPhone work again, but neither will work if the device is stolen. The simplest solution is to take the device to an Apple store with proof that you own it, but if that is not possible there is a new service that specializes in unlocking the iCloud lock to allow you to use the iPhone just like it was new. The iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s all include Find My iPhone Activation Lock as part of iOS 7. This is also commonly called iCloud lock as it can lock the phone down and prevent a thief from resetting the iPhone and selling it. Apple introduced this feature in iOS 7 last fall and it is already credited with cut

New iOS 7 Lock Screen Bypass: So Easy It’s Scary

Lock screen bugs in iOS are nothing new , and each version of iOS has introduced different ways for curious minds to get past the iOS lock screen by taking advantage of a few tricks. However, a newly discovered iOS 7 lock screen bypass trick allows anyone to break into a passcode-protected iPhone in just a few seconds. While this trick is the easiest lock screen bypass we’ve seen yet, it only works during certain circumstances. To be exact, this bypass trick only gives you access to an app if it was running in the foreground when you locked your iPhone. It doesn’t allow full access and past lock screen tricks were the same way, but it can potentially be used to access sensitive information. Furthermore, the user will need to have a missed call in the Notification Center and have access to Control Center from the lock screen enabled. It’s indeed very specific as far as when it works. To get the trick to work, all you have to do is wake the iPhone and then swipe up f

iOS 8 vs iOS 7: 8 Changes iPhone Owners Need to Know

Apple plans an iOS 8 release this fall as a free update to recent iPhones, leaving many owners wondering how iOS 8 compares to iOS 7. In this short iOS 8 vs iOS 7 comparison iPhone owners can learn what to expect this fall, and several key differences between the two versions. One thing you will notice immediately in any iOS 8 vs iOS 7 comparison is that the new update doesn’t look much different from iOS 7. After a major change with iOS 7 and further tweaks with iOS 7.1, Apple is focusing on adding major iOS 8 features instead of changing the look again. When the iOS 8 release date arrives this fall users with an iPhone 4S or newer can update to this new version of the iPhone software. Apple did not reveal the exact date, but should share more details at an iPhone 6 launch event this fall. It is possible that Apple plans the iOS 8 release date for September 17th, two days before the rumored iPhone 6 release date . iOS 8 vs iOS 7 design looks very much the same.

4 Insanely Frustrating Samsung Galaxy S5 Questions Remain

The Samsung Galaxy S5 release date in the United States officially took place on April 11th and the new flagship Galaxy S is not only out on major U.S. carriers but on the radar of millions of Americans. That said, there are still some burning Galaxy S5 questions that Samsung and its carrier partners have left unanswered. When Samsung first announced the Galaxy S5 back in February, it was naturally excited to be taking the stage to show off its brand new Galaxy S smartphone, a device that replaces the Galaxy S4 and a device that joins the Galaxy Note 3 in Samsung’s two-pronged attack against its bitter rivals. The company took the stage to parade around its brand new flagship and its new features. Who could blame it? The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a water and dust proof design that we like much better than the Galaxy S4 design. A camera that offers an extremely fast auto-focus and high quality video capture. A speedy processor and a fingerprint reader. A heart rat
